Cleveland Browns QB Baker Mayfield did successfully undergo his shoulder surgery, a crucial reason for his struggles during the 2021 NFL season. Following a breakout 2020 NFL campaign, Mayfield was carrying big expectations for the Cleveland franchise. But injuries to his legs and shoulder severely did hamper the versatile QB to have any meaningful impact on their disappointing season.

It was his shoulder injury in Week 17 that did rule him out for the remainder of the 2021 NFL season. He was then on a timetable for imminent surgery which as he did recently reveal to be a ‘complete success’. The Cleveland franchise QB will begin throwing footballs only after the month of April. He is expected to make his comeback before the start of training camp for the next season.

While recording a video for his fans, Mayfield states, “This is one of those steps to get back to my true self. This past year hasn’t been very easy.”

During his video message, Baker does indeed note that this surgery was necessary for better health going into the next season. A big outcome from being injured was his noticeable dropoff statistically from last season. Despite a blip in an otherwise fruitful tenure with the Browns, the franchise did reinforce their faith in Mayfield. It was a decision that Browns GM Andrew Barry did echo at the start of January to dispatch trade rumors.

The former No. 1 overall pick did state in his message to fans, “It’s gonna be one of the minor bumps that I will look back and remember. It is gonna be one of the challenges and adversity that I will take advantage of.” Mayfield’s road to recovery is a long one where he did claim that he will focus on getting stronger.

As an NFL QB, Baker Mayfield is among the toughest of the modern-day QBs. It is difficult for players to sit out and watch their team struggle without their contributions. There is just one certainty with the Browns QB and that involves him rectifying the course of the future of the Browns franchise as a Super Bowl contender.
