The Kyler Murray contract shenanigans got considerable public interest during the offseason. The Cardinals QB was vocal about a long-term contract. Moreover, there was a time when it saw that Murray might seek a trade. But former NFL LB-turned-analyst lays down the groundwork on why Kyler should the next big-money contract deal.

Back in February 2022, Kyler Murray scrubbed all Arizona Cardinals references from all his social media pages. It also led to multiple reports stating that both parties may have some tension circulating. But Kyler debunked everything and called himself an Arizona Cardinal, saying he is not concerned about the future.

 

During the ‘Speak For Yourself‘ show, Emmanuel Acho reflects on his thoughts on whether Kyler Murray deserves to get an extension.

Acho mentions, An extension for Kyler Murray would be at minimum four years, $160 million and thus fully guaranteed. That was kind of the floor right now. That is what the Cowboys’ Dak Prescott got, so when we’re talking an extension. We’re probably talking the minimum average salary annually of 40 million dollars per year. If I’m paying you that kind of money, I need two things to be true, but at least one. I need you to be a baller, and I need you to be a good reflection of the team.”

However, the former NFL linebacker believes QB Murray has not earned the right to be paid. He recalls his social media shenanigans, deleting and then re-posting all Arizona Cardinals citations. When one is subjected to getting $160 million, Acho considers it an immature thing to do. He also adds up, saying, “Remember, money does not change who you are. It just exposes who you are.”

After the questionable antics in February, The Murray-Cardinals extension process may lead to something positive in the future. The franchise athletes report to training on July 26th, and the situation has been less noisy. But ESPN’s Jeff Darlington believes the franchise may put the extension deal forth before that.

Murray, 24, is entering his fourth NFL season and wants to be paid like one of the league’s best young quarterbacks. In April, Arizona exercised the QB’s fifth-year option on his $35.6 million rookie contract. Arizona is a decent choice for postseason advancement in 2022 as far as Murray takes charge as the QB1. His contract keeps him throughout 2023, and he could improve his case for a long-term deal this year.
