Former Buccaneers WR Mike Williams is a warrior in every sense. The 36-year-old who has been holding on to his life with the help of life support, is making an impressive return to life. The latest reports divulge that Williams has been taken off the ventilator and is on track for recovery. 

Williams met with an accident on a construction site in Florida, inflicting an injury on his head. He was rushed to the hospital after the gash got infected, which put him in a coma. After days of battle, the positive news is a breath of relief.

The WR is fighting his way back to his life

“He goes hard in everything he does, He doesn’t give up easily at all,”, says Tierney Layla, the mother of William’s eight-year-old daughter. Lyla’s words ring true, as the 36-year-old is fighting his way back to life. Williams was removed from the ventilator after being admitted for more than a week, on Thursday at 4 p.m.After being taken off life support, the WR is also breathing on his own and has even shown signs of responding.

Lyla told WIVB4 that a friend of Williams paid him a visit, and showed him one of his highlight reels, while a smile lit William’s face. She also requested the prayers of the fans and supporters. “We need prayer warriors to continue praying and spread the word”. While the health of the WR has improved considerably, there are no indications as to when he will be released from medical care.

An innocuous gash that took a threatening turn

The former Syracuse player met with a fatal accident on August 21. At a construction site in Hillsborough County, a steel beam hit William’s head, inflicting a gash that did not prove serious initially. However, things took a wild turn when the wound got infected. Following his health deterioration, he was rushed to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa, where he was put on life support.

While the WR was fighting for his life, the news of his untimely demise spread like wildfire, sending shockwaves through the world of football. Many expressed their condolences to his family, only to learn later that the reports were false when those who were associated with Williams denied the news.

The wide receiver, a Buffalo native, was a former player at Syracuse. He was selected as a draft pick in the fourth round of the 2010 NFL Draft by the Buccaneers. In his impressive maiden year at Tampa Bay, he caught 65 passes for 964 yards and 11 touchdowns and finished second in Offensive Rookie of the Year voting. He stayed away from the gridiron after his final game in 2014 with the Bills.
