For the past two years, there have been talks of Miami Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa being replaced by Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson in a trade run among both franchises. This step arose some tension between Tagovailoa and ex-coach Brian Flores, who was ultimately discharged at the end of the season.

However, the Dolphins dropped the trade and discoursed the situation with a solid statement in retort to the saga.
Miami Dolphins have made their intentions concise
Dolphins GM Chris Grier has shut down any possibilities of the trade and won’t set their hands over it. They will stick with QB Tagovailoa and develop him, as he continues to be the starting quarterback.
Grier made a public statement at the NFL Scouting Combine at Indianapolis, as he explained, “I think the door is shut on Deshaun.”
“At the end of the day, Mike [McDaniel] and the staff have come to do a lot of work and studied a lot of Tua and they feel good about his developmental upside, what he can be, and then they fit in the offense. I think we’re good with Tua.”

QB Deshaun Watson, 26 years old, did not play in 2021. Despite not being officially suspended, the team kept Watson off the field because of the charges of misconduct, as well as a slew of legal cases he was facing.

The Dolphins once stood interested in trading for Watson, and owner Stephen Ross could even speak with him. Furthermore, the remark shows the franchise’s belief in Tagovailoa as the team prepares for the 2022 season.
Coach McDaniels’ faith in Tua Tagovailoa
One thing stands clear: Coach Mike McDaniel has faith in Tua Tagovailoa and his development as a quarterback. Tagovailoa, the fifth overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft out of Alabama, appeared in 13 games last season, completing 263 passes for 2,653 yards, 16 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions, entering his third season with the franchise.

Although GM Grier clobbered on the question when asked if he thinks Tua can be an elite quarterback. He answered the media, “I can’t say he can’t be. It’s in a situation now where this will be built around his skill set and what the offense can be and Mike’s vision of how he fits.”
Moreover, the coach said that it’s early to consider him elite in 20 games, even missing out on a few. But he won matches this year, and winning in this league is challenging.
