Tom Brady, in his groundbreaking docuseries Man in the Arena, has highlighted many of his former teammates. Be it Drew Bledsoe or Lawyer Milloy, Wes Welker or Vince Wilfork, the quarterback has referred to many of his former New England Patriots peers. In his most recent episode, which aired on Tuesday, Brady talked about his 2014 Super Bowl season.

During that season, WR Julian Edelman was one of the favorite targets for the quarterback and they both had a unique dynamic between them. The partnership between the two got them the Lombardi Trophy after a Super Bowl matchup against the Russell Wilson led Seattle Seahawks.

In the recent episode, Brady said that Julian had a tough father who used to make him practice. And that the wide receiver used to share great stories with his father.
Tom Brady recalling his time with Julian Edelman
“Julian’s dad was pretty tough on him,” Brady said in the episode. “Like, Julian will tell a great story about charging the mound when his dad was throwing him batting practice. That’s what you need to know about Jules. That’s what he does. He does not like being told that he’s arrived, he’s great, he’s got a role secured. Julian always likes operating from a place he’s going to get cut tomorrow.”
Religion of Sports tweeted the brief clip of the series where Brady talks about his former teammate. Replying to the clip, Julian wrote, “What’s the saying? Comfort is the enemy of progress. Can’t get complacent. Period.”

Julian now clearly cherishes those times when his father used to double down on his practice sessions at home. He further agrees that greatness can never occur with comfort. Following which Tom Brady tweeted, “In another life I think Jules and I could have traveled the country getting in bar fights with people we thought looked at us funny…”

It’s surely an insider joke, but that’s an anecdote for some other time. For the time being, their friendship seems to have remained evergreen. And it will be interesting to hear more about their stories later on.
