

Steve McMichael spent 15 years in the league, out of which 13 he spent with the Bears. Known as ‘Mongo’ by Da Bears, the veteran suffers from ALS and was recently admitted to the intensive care unit in Illinois with sepsis and pneumonia.
The news was shared by McMichael’s wife, Misty, who also revealed one of his personal wishes, sparking a storm of emotions in the community. However, just hours later, there was an uplifting update that brought hope.

Steve McMichael’s road to recovery
In a recent uplifting update, the NFL veteran’s family came forward to let the fans know that McMichael’s health is improving. The good news is that his sepsis is gone, but he’s still fighting pneumonia. His wife, Misty, made a statement at his hospital bedside, mentioning that he’ll stay in the ICU for a few more days for IV antibiotics to clear the infection. She further added that there are some fluids remaining in McMichael’s lungs, for which he is being treated.
Misty added, “He’s as feisty as ever. Our Mongo is back! Please keep the prayers coming.” Notably, amidst these challenging times, fans have poured their love and support for the family. Moreover, McMichael had a DNR in place, which he decided to void after his induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in the Seniors category gained traction in the past few weeks. He, unfortunately, fell unconscious while waiting to be taken to the hospital, but regained consciousness around 7:00 AM on Friday. The NFL star’s health is expected to improve soon.

The star defensive tackle has an impressive list of accolades on the field, with a whopping 838 tackles recorded. From being the defensive MVP of the Hula Bowl to winning a Super Bowl championship, the NFL veteran even excelled in coaching, spending 7 years as an HC for Chicago Slaughter. As Mongo recovers, his wife shared a heartfelt montage on her Instagram page, including his utmost wish of becoming a Hall of Famer. The video featured several prayer-like posts and a badge-like photo with the words “2024 Hall of Fame, Make it happen.” She also shared pictures of McMichael’s playing days, along with a fan’s post, urging everyone to support him for the Hall of Fame.
