A day ago, The New York Times put a post on their Twitter handle about Baby Gronk, reflecting he is a young boy who plays football very well and his dad says, “He’s a real athlete, not a normal kid. He has been trained and programmed since he was 6 years old.” In response to this, JJ Watt, a legendary ex-NFL player, expressed his disagreement with it.
I’ve always said…
Kids should play multiple sports and kids should be allowed to be kids.
I’m not against advanced leagues, better competition, etc.
But no kid should be playing one sport all year & no kid should be training “like a pro” until at least HS.
They’re kids.

In his reply, Watt disagreed pushing young children to specialize in one sport at such a young age and undergo intense training. He stated, “I’ve always said that kids should play multiple sports and be allowed to be kids. While I don’t oppose advanced leagues or better competition, no child should be solely focused on one sport all year and no child should be training like a professional athlete until at least high school. After all, they’re just kids.” Who is Baby Gronk? The phenomenon behind the headlines.
