Mac Jones Injury Report: After a Debilitating Start Last Week, Bill Belichick Offers the Latest on Tom Brady’s Coveted Successor

On ‘Monday Night Football,’ Patriots’ quarterback, Mac Jones, made his return from an ankle injury. However, he only lasted till the second quarter, as the head coach, Bill Belichick, took him off in favor of the young rookie quarterback, Bailey Zappe.

After the game, Belichick explained that he benched Jones because of the injury concerns. Recently, he provided an injury update on Jones, as he was expecting him to play the full game against the Jets this Sunday.

In a recent interview, Belichick said about Jones, “Took a full workload yesterday and I expect him to be fully available for the game and ready to go.“

“He was ready to play last week, but just didn’t feel it was the full game. This week is a different situation,” he further explained.

It is worth noting that Jones suffered a lot of criticism because of his alleged dirty play against the Chicago Bears. During the second quarter, he kicked the crotch of the Bears’ safety, Jaquan Brisker, while sliding onto the field. However, he did not receive any penalty for that play, neither from the referees nor from the NFL, so far. 

After that dirty play, the head coach, Belichick, took him off the field, and many thought it was because of the dirty play. Now, it seems like he did it to prevent him from getting injured once again. Meanwhile, many fans and experts called Jones out on social media after his dirty play against the Bears.

The patriots are not having a great season

In the AFC East division, the Patriots are at the bottom of their group behind the Bills, the Jets, and the Dolphins. They lost 4 out of 7 games so far this season and are almost out of playoff contention. In 2018, they won the Super Bowl last time, when Tom Brady was with the Patriots. Since he left them two years ago, they have not done well in the NFL.

After Brady left, many thought Mac Jones would be his successor in the Patriots’ team. However, he failed to live up to the expectations so far. Moreover, the injuries have not helped him one bit. Now, Belichick is putting his trust in Jones for the upcoming games, as the Patriots are fighting for a playoff spot.
