Patrick Mahomes is one of the most popular players in the NFL. He is fully focused to get the Kansas City Chiefs to the Super Bowl this season. But that doesn’t mean that he doesn’t make time for other sports. Especially when the US is making history in it.

The USMNT scripted success in the FIFA World Cup and it brought the soccer fan out of Mahomes.

Patrick Mahomes the soccer fan

USMNT took on Iran in the FIFA World Cup being held in Qatar with a qualification to the next round on the line. After a cagey start, the team USA asserted their dominance and ran out as 1-0 winners. And they made it to the Round of 16 where they will face the Netherlands.

The win brought out the soccer fan out of the Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes. He shared a tweet in support of the soccer team with just two words to show his passion for the country. “Let’s go!!!” the QB wrote with the Star and the Stripes emojis.

Team USA could not qualify for the World Cup in 2018 so making it to the Round of 16 was the bare minimum the fans hoped for. And they got it.

Mahomes got the soccer bug from his wife Brittany, who was a soccer athlete since high school. Currently she owns a women’s soccer team the Kansas City Current, playing in the National Women’s Soccer League.

Mahomes outside the NFL

Fans mostly know Patrick Mahomes for his football skills. But there are other aspects of his life that go under the radar because of his mad football skills. Many fans don’t know that he could have easily not played the NFL but another sport altogether. As much as it sounds improbable, it is a true story.

Mahomes’ father Patrick Mahomes Sr. was a professional athlete too. He was a baseball star who played in the MLB for various teams between 1992 and 2003. And the Chiefs QB could have easily played baseball himself. Growing up, he was a passionate Alex Rodriguez fan. The Detroit Tigers even drafted him in the 2014 MLB draft. But he chose football. Thank God for that.

He loves to play golf too. This is also something he got from his father. In an interview in 2018, the QB even boasted of beating his father in the game, although just one time.

Other than that, he follows Brittany’s team the Current and loves collecting shoes. But most importantly, he is the best football player of his generation, to say the least.
