New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick was dealt the tough task of having to replace Tom Brady this season. The iconic quarterback left the Patriots in search of a new challenge. He signed a two-year deal worth north of $50 million ($60 million including bonuses) with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Meanwhile, Belichick signed former Carolina Panthers man Cam Newton on a short-term deal in the offseason. Along with 2019 NFL draft pick Jarrett Stidham, Newton will also be pushing for a starting berth in New England this year. The 2015 NFL MVP has been dealing with foot and shoulder injuries since 2019. But coach Belichick is optimistic regarding Newton’s integration in New England.

Veteran NFL coach Bill Belichick appeared on the Rich Eisen Show earlier today. The six-time Super Bowl-winning coach was asked to comment on Newton’s preparation ahead of the 2020 season.
“Being with him every day, he’s an extremely hard-working player. First guy in, last one out type of guy. He’s really studied hard and has spent a lot of extra time trying to learn our offense, our communication, our calls, nomenclature. I’ve been very impressed with that. He’s done a very good job of picking it up. He’s a very skilled athlete,” Belichick said.

The Patriots start their 2020 NFL campaign with a tough game against the Miami Dolphins. Belichick has been trying out Jarrett Stidham, Brian Hoyer, and Cam Newton for the starting quarterback role. Based on this recent interview, it seems like Newton is now the favorite to start for the Patriots when they take the field on September 13 at the Gilette Stadium. But is Newton the right man to step in and replace Tom Brady? Guess we’ll have to just wait and watch.
