Lamar Jackson is back in the news as he is part of the Top 10 of the ESPN rankings. And it has been a hell of a ride for the QB. From being urged to reposition himself as a WR, to making it as one of the best QBs in the NFL, the Ravens man has seen quite an eventful career in his time.
But it wouldn’t be enough to bridge the gap to first place between himself and Mahomes. Despite becoming the highest-paid QB earlier this year, Jackson still basks in the shadow of Patrick Mahomes. Since the latest rankings place the Great Wall of China between him and the top spot.

The rankings that have been released by ESPN placed 10 of the current NFL QBs as some of the best in the business. While Mahomes, Allen, and Burrow rounded up the top three, few would have expected Jackson to not even make the Top 5. Since he would eventually find his place in the bottom half of the list.
Ranking 7th on the list, Jackson and many others will scratch their heads at how low he has been placed. Although a top-10 finish from being unranked is no mean feat and deserves credit, but the mammoth contract handed out for the 7th best QB in the league is questionable in hindsight.
His skills as a passer are an added benefit to the numbers he can post. Since he trails Mahomes, Brady, and Staubach for a winning percentage of .738 to his name. Irrespective of that, he still lacks the elusive Super Bowl from his trophy cabinet. Something which Mahomes has twice decked out his cabinet with.
Patrick Mahomes is the current peak
Jackson has some individual accolades to his name, winning the Pro Bowl twice and the All-Pro once. It pales in comparison to the current Top QB in the league, Patrick Mahomes.

To talk about his personal trophy collection, he has 5 Pro Bowls to his name and 2 All-Pro titles in a career that is just 1 year longer than Jackson’s.
Furthermore, he has been the Super Bowl MVP in both wins for the Kansas City Chiefs in the last 5 years. While Mahomes and Jackson may not have a world of difference between them statistically, Mahomes’ performances on the pitch have led to material outcomes, whereas Jackson’s have not.
