It’s safe to say that Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson exceeded expectations last year. The University of Louisville-graduate leapfrogged Patrick Mahomes to bag the NFL MVP award by a unanimous vote in 2019.

Jackson is tipped to have another stellar season with the Ravens in 2020. The only thing that’s missing on Jackson’s CV is a Super Bowl winner’s trophy.

Great expectations from reigning league MVP Lamar Jackson

On the recent segment of Speak For Yourself by Marcellus Willey and Emmanuel Acho, the hosts delved into Lamar Jackson’s projected trajectory in the NFL for 2020.

“Lamar Jackson is a dog. Lamar Jackson’s a dog, right? 19-3 as a starter, he a beast. Doing things we ain’t never seen before. They say (Jackson is) Michael Vick on steroids, not literally, but like the heightened version.”

“But, and you know there’s always a but, you can’t compare him yet as earning the same amount of money as Patrick Mahomes, Marcellus, and here is why,” Acho said.

The former NFL defensive player went on to highlight one major difference between Mahomes and Jackson at this point in their respective careers.

“LaVar Arrington came on this show yesterday telling lies. He (LaVar) said ‘The goal of a player is to win the MVP’. That’s a lie. The goal of a player is to win a Super Bowl. Because there’s some things money can’t buy, coach.

“When I think about Pat Mahomes, he has already accomplished some of the things that Lamar hasn’t necessarily accomplished. But let me speak directly to the point.

“The truth of the matter is this, Lamar Jackson would have to do something we’ve never seen in the NFL before. We have never seen a QB that is more feared for running, win a Super Bowl,” Acho added.

Super Bowl LIV winner Pat Mahomes’ 10-year contract extension is the biggest NFL deal of all time. In order for Lamar Jackson to top that, he will have to at least win a Super Bowl in the next two years.

Jackson is still 23 which means he still has time to reach his peak in the NFL.
