Aaron Donald is considered one of the greatest defensive players in the pro football league. Recently, the NFC West franchise reconstructed a contract for him, making him the most expensive defensive player of all time. Rams head coach Sean McVay commented on the deal and gave his thoughts on Donald’s abilities.

The 31-year-old will make around $95 million per the new contract. This will help him go through the 2024 season as the highest-paid non-QB in NFL history. Moreover, he is expected to earn a guaranteed salary of $65 million through the deal.

While talking in the ‘I am athlete’ podcast, coach Sean McVay marked his presence by touching on various topics for the upcoming season. Donald’s contract was the prime theme of discussion.

The host asked him whether the veteran had a conversation regarding the contract and acquiring him back to the roster.

“If there’s anybody that’s earned the right after eight years with the way he goes about it, the way he works at it, the process he had, the way that he pushes himself, nobody has higher standards for Aaron Donald than he does for himself. And I’ve seen that for the last five years. And so when there was a possibility of it, you know, he and I talked, and we have a great relationship, something that I cherish. I mean, I love this guy, and I’m so grateful for him.” McVay said on the podcast.

“And you’ve changed my life for the better as the coach; however, if this is financially driven, shame on me, shame on you, if we can’t get this thing figured out, because, you know, we’ve got you to know, your agents. We’ve got our guys in the front office that are committed to trying to figure out a good collaboration where you get rewarded the way you deserve.” the coach added to his statements.

Similarly, Donald seems to have received what he deserves: a whopping contract that keeps him intact with the franchise and pays more than many other quarterbacks in the league.
