Indianapolis Colts defensive backs coach Jonathan Gannon has garnered some attention over the course of this season. 

Thanks to the Colts DB performing beyond expectations, Gannon has landed himself a few interviews with franchises looking for a new defensive coordinator. 

The Chicago Bears recently interviewed Jonathan Gannon for the post after veteran DC Chuck Pagano decided to call it a day following his team failing to make it to the Playoffs.

But now, the LA Chargers seem to have emerged as contenders for Gannon’s signature as well.

LA Chargers looking for change

According to NFL Insider Ian Rapoport, Gannon is set to be interviewed by the Chargers for the role of defensive coordinator. The LA Chargers are looking set to have a major overhaul of their coaching staff following the hiring of new Head Coach Brandon Staley. 

Gannon has previously worked for franchises such as the Minnesota Vikings, Tennessee Titans, and Atlanta Falcons in various capacities.

The DB coach recently completed his 3rd season with Indi. He has garnered much praise for his work at Indi, where he’s played a key role in molding safeties such as Julian Blackmon, Kenny Moore, and Khari Willis. 

Gannon has also been praised for his role in reviving the career of Xavier Rhodes, who signed with the Colts in 2020. An astute mind with an ability to bring the best out of his players, it’s no wonder team’s are rushing to get him onboard.

A look back at Gannon’s career so far

Gannon has spent over a decade now building his resume. Just finishing his 3rd season as the Colts’ DB coach, he has 13 years of coaching experience.

This includes 9 seasons with the Colts, Minnesota Vikings, and Tennessee Titans. Gannon also spent 3 seasons with the Rams franchise as a scout between 2009-2011.

The Chargers are in need of change. Following their 7-9 season, the management has decided that there needs to be a shakeup.

Rookie Justin Herbert has been providing the spark the side needs on offense. But the Chargers will hope that Gannon will be able to provide them some answers in defense as well.
