The Allen Texas mass shooting incident from last Saturday left a stirring impression on the local community. Some felt it more than others, as another instance of meaningless gun violence gripped the nation. For Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray, this was a deeply emotional time as the QB played in Allen during his high school football career. This week, Murray returned to his roots and gave back to his community during this trying time.

An unidentified gunman opened fire on passers-by at an Allen Outlet Mall in North Dallas on Saturday. This senseless tragedy took a total of nine lives, including the gunman. However, the biggest casualty was the lives of the children lost in the massacre. Kyler Murray took a tiny step towards making the lives of the victims better, insignificant though it may be, given the times.

Kyler Murray makes a generous donation towards gun violence victims & families

Among the eight victims who died on Saturday were Cindy Cho, Kyu Cho, and their 3-year-old son James Cho. The family left behind 6-year-old William Cho as the only surviving member. William was later released from the ICU and currently remains in recovery. In order to honor the fallen family members and to help William in any manner possible, AH organized a Go Fund Me donation page for the family beneficiary. The donation drive, which had a target of $50,000, has reached nearly $1.695 million as of today. And Kyler Murray had a huge role to play in that.

The Cardinals passer remains the top donor on the list of 33,000 donation entries, with his contribution of $15,000.

Murray’s donation didn’t come as a surprise after the signal-caller expressed his frustrations with the increasing epidemic of gun violence in the country.

This is sickening. Prayers to the mass shooting victims in Allen, Texas. If there is any way I can help those affected by this tragedy, please let me know. When is this s—t gonna stop?” K1 tweeted.

Murray wasn’t the only NFL player with an Allen connection

May 6th’s mass shooting incident left the peaceful Allen community on extremely high alert. Besides Kyler Murray, Allen is home to a few more NFL stars, who all left their condolences. Allen High School alum and Seattle Seahawks Safety Steve Terrell left his prayers for the city and the victims.

Man, terrible news in my hometown. Praying for the families,” Washington Commanders running back and Allen native Jonathan Williams tweeted. Another Allen HS alum, Detroit Lions defensive tackle Levi Onwizurike, called the tragedy “senseless” while praying for the affected. The Dallas Cowboys organization also released a statement following the incident calling it a “meaningless loss of life”.

For now, the NFL world can only pray for the victims and hope for an end to this nuisance of accelerated mass shooting headlines across the country.
