Take a look at the 2021 post-season games. The ones who stood out during the playoffs were Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes, Joe Burrow, and Tom Brady; most of them youngsters. It was hard to see veterans like Aaron Rodgers and Ben Roethlisberger go down. This implies that the NFL is now heading towards a new generation of athletes who will carry this sport forward.
Kevin explained how the sport has drastically shifted its spotlight towards the youngsters. He was in talks with his host Eddie about the bizarre Divisional Round matchup between the Buffalo Bills and the Kansas City Chiefs.
That was clearly the game of the quarterbacks. The 25-year-old Josh Allen and 26-year-old Patrick Mahomes put on a show and displayed that the league has a safe and yet, an interesting future. The quarterbacks opened the doors for a new-gen rivalry succeeding the Brady-Manning period.
Kevin Durant on the dying light of Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers
“Brady and Rodgers are still doing it, but you know their time is coming to an end,” Kevin said. “And then you see the Allens, the Mahomes, the Herberts, the Lamars. I mean they gonna be for sure running the league in the next 10 years, you know. And I think we gonna see some legendary performances.”

It was a bizarre postseason for the new-gen athletes, even though many potential threats did not make it that far. However, there was one player in that list that the duo forgot to talk about. That player was the second-year QB, Joe Burrow, who is on his way to go up against the Los Angeles Rams for the Super Bowl title.
The future of the NFL is certainly, in excellent hands. But somewhere in this rumble, old school players have been overpowered. Now, with Tom Brady and Ben Roethlisberger retired, Aaron Rodgers remains the only elite class QB who still hasn’t hung up his cleats.
