It’s not even a week that the NFL saw the highest deal in the history of global sports. Patrick Mahomes, who recently signed a mammoth $450 million contract with the Kansas City Chiefs, took some time off his regular training. Instead, he tried his luck in golf. And guess what, he drained a perfect putt.

Before the regular NFL season starts, Mahomes has participated in yet another competition. But this time, it won’t be football. The reigning Super Bowl MVP will be seen at the American Century Championship (ACC). His teammate tight end Travis Kelce will join him there.
On the day of his first-round game, July 10, Mahomes tweeted again, expressing his nervous feeling. He wrote, “Have no idea how I’m going to focus today playing my first round @ACChampionship with @tkelce and my man Charles Barkley”.

Star-studded event
This year’s ACC is going on at the Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course in Lake Tahoe. The tournament started on July 7 and will continue until July 12. This celebrity special tournament features three rounds, which follows a modified Stableford points format instead of standard stroke play. This year marks the competition’s 31st edition.
The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes will join basketball star Stephen Curry, who is the Golden State Warriors’ point guard. He has thrice won the NBA and became an NBA MVP on two occasions. Another former basketball player, Charles Barkley too, will participate alongside Mahomes. This will be Barkley’s 25th appearance in the competition.
Over this upcoming weekend, these superstars of their respective games will take on each other in the golf course. This would be Mahomes’ debut in the competition, while Curry had been there seven times before this year. So, in terms of experience, Curry might have an edge over the most expensive sportsman in the world.
Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo will also be seen at the competition. Interestingly, Romo has won the competition for the last two consecutive years. Another celebrity athlete, MLB’s former Oakland Athletics pitcher Mark Mulder will also participate. He has won three back-to-back ACC titles between 2015 and 2017.

A new challenge for Mahomes
It seems that Mahomes would face tough competition from the former athletes when he steps on the golf course this weekend. But from the video that went viral on social media, one thing is clear. And that is Mahomes is in good touch. His confidence is sky-high. It won’t be a miracle in case the NFL’s most valuable quarterback gets his hands onto his first non-football trophy next week. What happens on the golf course, is again a tale that only the future can tell.
