Analyst Marcellus Wiley sheds light why Russell Wilson is very much out of the MVP contenders. According to him, Wilson had a splendid start, but over time his performance has deteriorated drastically. There are way more deserving contenders, like Kansas City Chiefs Patrick Mahomes and Green Bay Packers Aaron Rodgers. Their form has been amazing from the beginning of the season, with no downfalls. Aaron Rodgers and Patrick Mahomes presently are considerably ahead of Wilson in the MVP race.

Wiley earlier predicted that Wilson would have a brilliant start, but slowly, with time, he is going to lose his pace once again. “Russell Wilson will start fast and finish. He’s gonna start hot finish lukewarm, and that’s what’s happened once again,” said Wiley on Speak For Yourself.

Russell Wilson nowhere near Patrick Mahomes and Aaron Rodgers

Earlier this season Wilson was playing some eye-catching football, but gradually his form has seen a small decline. He might have played well, but comparatively, Patrick Mahomes and Aaron Rodgers have left him far behind. Mahomes is on fire this season, he is in a way better form than he was in 2018 when he received the MVP. He currently dominates in multiple statistical categories. The Super Bowl MVP has a Total QB rating of 86.2. He has the maximum passing yards (3,497 passing yards) as compared to other quarterbacks in the league.

Adding to that he has made 30 TDs, 2 interceptions (plus 215 rushing yards and 2 rushing TDs) in 11 games. Following his lead 2nd in line for MVP is Aaron Rodgers with a Total QBR 85.3. He has managed 3,100 passing yards, 33 TDs, 4 interceptions in 11 games. He is almost at a leveled ground with Mahomes as of now. Coming to Russell Wilson, until 6 weeks ago he stood a chance but then between week 7 and week 10, the Seahawks lost not two but three matches out of four. He is currently in 4th place with a passer rating of 110.8.

“Remember Russell Wilson was out there said, Now I don’t want to vote. More importantly, I want to win it off. Oh. Don’t you wish you could have yesterday back because now? Not only are you not going to win at all. You might not even get a vote,” said Wiley. He further added, “We all know Patrick Mahomes right now is in the driver’s seat right there shotgun is Aaron Rodgers. Russell Wilson has either a back seat or in the trunk right now getting pulled, as he knows that this is slipping away from him.”

‘DangeRuss’ Wilson needs to up the ante in coming weeks

Currently, Wilson is nowhere leading any of the statistical categories. To win the MVP, it’s crucial to be at top of at least one statistical category, which doesn’t seem to happen for him even with the upcoming matches. Although he is not to blame completely, his team is equal to blame, even though Wilson put himself in such a position because of the turnovers and the losses in recent weeks.

“I don’t see how he catches up ground between him, Patrick mahomes or Aaron Rodgers.” said Wiley

So far, the only two players fighting for the MVP this season are Patrick Mahomes and Aaron Rodgers. It seems it will be Mahomes as of now, but Aaron Rodgers could steal his spot. The two-time NFL MVP is having a stellar season of his own, proving his doubters wrong. This one is going right down to the wire.
