Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is one of the youngest successful quarterbacks in the current era of the NFL. Interestingly, the 26-year-old QB comes from a sports family. His father, Patrick Levon Mahomes Sr, was a professional Baseball player.

No wonder why Patrick Mahomes is reigning as one of the highest-paid quarterbacks in the NFL. His full name is Patrick Levon Mahomes II and shares a similar identity with his father, Patrick Mahomes Sr. His mother, Randi Mahomes, gave birth to him on 17th September 1995. Patrick’s father, Mahomes Sr, played professional baseball as a pitcher from 1992 to 2003.

During his school days and college career, Patrick eventually received motivation from his father and played baseball for the university teams. The quarterback has three siblings; Jackson Mahomes, who is a popular TikToker, and half-sisters Mia Randall and Zoe Mahomes.

Patrick Mahomes Sr.’s athleticism helped Mahomes Jr in his career

Like his son, Pat Sr. was also a professional athlete. As a pitcher in Major League Baseball from 1992 to 2003, he spent almost ten years of his life in this sport. Pat played for teams like the Minnesota Twins, the Boston Red Sox, the New York Mets, the Texas Rangers, the Chicago Cubs, and the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Apart from his MLB career, Pat pitched for two seasons in Japan’s Nippon Professional Baseball in 1997 and 1998 for the Yokohama Bay Stars. As a result, he got inducted as a member of the Sioux Falls Canaries Hall of Fame. After marrying Randi Martin in the late 90s, the couple shared two sons, Patrick, who was born in 1995, and Jackson in 2000. However, just a few years after giving birth to their sons, the duo separated in 2006. But they never risked their kids’ careers and raised them equally.

His father is one of the main reasons Patrick Mahomes Jr. played basketball, baseball, and football in the early stages of his career. Even his football coach affirmed that Patrick indulging in other sports helped him become a better quarterback. However, the 26-year-old dropped playing basketball later and pursued the other two games at Texas Tech University, switching on and off between seasons.

According to Randi Martin, Mahomes once vowed to retire from football even before getting drafted into the NFL. However, she motivated him to pursue the sport seriously otherwise, he “would regret it”, she says. Thankfully, Mahomes chose football over other games and led the team to their first Super Bowl in 2020.
