This offseason has been all about contracts. While players like Lamar Jackson are struggling to get what they might be worth, players like Justin Herbert can command their own full worth. It is obvious that quarterbacks are one of the most valuable members of the team and it seems like Herbert knows that. Herbert’s talks with his team might even earn him a huge contract that blows Mahomes out of the water.
The young quarterback has proven himself as a reliable slinger for Los Angeles Chargers. Furthermore, he has earned the trust of his coach and the love of the Chargers organization. They only need to dot the i’s and cross the t’s to ensure that they can give Herbert a number that makes him happy.

While he still remains in contract talks with the Chargers, no one can keep the possibility of Herbert’s hefty salary a secret. He seems to have committed to the Chargers and is just ironing out the details so that he gets paid his due. As per CBS Sports, Herbert is expected to receive a contract that will bring him a salary of more than $50 million annually. This puts his salary above the kind of salary Patrick Mahomes is bringing in. Interestingly, with his 10-year contract, Mahomes earns $45 million a year.
Furthermore, if he can land a contract that pays him more than $50 million a year, he is likely to beat out even players as prominent as Aaron Rodgers for their contracts. It also seems like the folks in the Chargers organization are happy about him staying.
The joy Herbert brings to the coaching staff
When interviewed, the coaching staff went bonkers over Herbert. They began singing his praises and appreciating him. One coach even said, “But the major takeaway is that Justin Herbert is going to be our quarterback, and we’re so excited that he is leading our franchise.” There was a lot of confidence from the coach in terms of Herbert’s landing spot. With the effort he put in, he has now become most probably the richest QB in the league.
While his contract hasn’t been confirmed, even these talks are a huge step for the quarterback’s career. It only remains to be seen if he can earn a contract that puts him above the likes of A-Rod and Mahomes.
