However, later everyone found out that it was not the real Adam Schefter; instead, it was just a parody account of the NFL insider. Interestingly, it had a blue badge and the same profile picture as Schefter. This incident questions Elon Musk and his plans for the Twitter verification process.
College kid spreads fake news about Odell Beckham Jr., and others using Adam Schefter’s name
Using the @AdamSchefterN0T account, a 19-year-old college student, who majored in Computer Science, tweeted that Odell Beckham Jr. has been traded to the Dallas Cowboys. Then, he tweeted that the Raiders fired their head coach, Josh McDaniels. Later, he wrote about Justin Fields getting suspended as well for sharing some unethical views.
Many thought those were actual news, as Schefter has a reputation for providing breaking news. Hence, those tweets received plenty of likes and interactions. Later, fans found a pinned tweet on that page which stated, “I am not Adam Schefter this is a parody account.”
Later, the actual Twitter user revealed that he has been a huge fan of football and always followed the sport. He usually uses Twitter to interact with friends and discuss football with them. This time, he used Elon Musk’s new Twitter policy and got the blue badge by paying $8. Then, he created the parody account of Schefter using the same bio and same profile picture, and his tweets about a few NFL players went viral instantly.

Notably, some of that news was actually rumors, which were circulating in various news outlets. Many fans got fooled by that news easily. Eventually, Twitter suspended his account, but his tweets certainly garnered plenty of attention from the media and fans.
However, this incident showed a massive loophole in Musk’s new Twitter policy, as anyone can get verified now using an $8 subscription. While speaking about it, the Twitter user said, “It was 100% the blue checkmark… My bio and pinned tweet clearly state to not take my tweet as fact… As long as I am following those rules which Elon laid out, I do not think I will be suspended.”
