Chicago Bears are now in the hands of Justin Fields as coach Matt Nagy announced on Wednesday. The rookie will be their No. 1 quarterback for the remainder of the 2021 season regardless of Andy Dalton’s health.

Fields has shown tremendous improvement over the course of time and has been growing as a quarterback since the day he got drafted by the Bears in 2021.
Head Coach Matt Nagy on Justin Fields
“He’s done everything to show us that he’s ready for this opportunity,” Nagy said during his Wednesday press conference. “After this past weekend and the growth we saw with Justin, the discussions we had were to go this direction.”
Two career starts were all it took for Justin Fields to prove to the head coach and the staff of selectors that he’s worth being a starting quarterback. Although his first start against Cleveland Browns was a disaster as he was sacked 12 times and finished 68 yards passing, completing six of his 20 pass attempts, ultimately losing 26-6 against them.

But just as Nagy said, he has tremendous potential and never fails to improve. And so in his Week 4 clash against the Lions, Justin got sacked only once and finished 209 yards, passing and completing 11 of his 17 pass attempts.

Earned the spot despite a dull start?
His improvement earned him praises from the head coach Nagy and a place as the QB1 of the Bears for the rest of the season. “This is Justin’s time. We’re so confident moving forward with that,” Nagy said. “He’s earned it.”
However, after watching Fields play for the previous two weeks, Nagy gave him the nod over Andy Dalton. Dalton started off the 2021 season as the QB1 for the Bears but got sidelined with a knee injury. Thus, this gives Fields the opportunity to showcase his abilities as the QB1 for the Bears.
However, his potential will be put to test when the 2-2 Chicago Bears face the 3-1 Las Vegas Raiders on their Week 5 matchup.
