Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers have had their fair share of ups and downs over the last few months. The veteran NFL quarterback was eager to move on in search of a new challenge ahead of the 2021 NFL season. But Packers GM Brian Gutekunst refused to let his star man depart.
Instead, both parties came to a conclusion that will see Rodgers stay put at Lambeau Field, at least for another year. Meanwhile, Gutekunst moved quickly to ease Aaron’s nerves by bringing back former Green Bay fan favourite, Randall Cobb.

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers met with the media amidst ongoing preseason prep in Wisconsin. The reigning NFL MVP was asked about the possibility of a reunion with good mate, Clay Matthews. Aaron had a rather blunt and firm answer which put an end to all rumours.
“Friday night (August 13), I was with Dave and his lovely fiancee, Frankie, and the Cobbs. And we had a question about Clay that came up, because Clay just moved from California. So we got Clay on FaceTime.”

“Those conversations turned into a social media post. There hasn’t been, I don’t think, a big push from any of us to sign him. We didn’t even talk ball. We were just BS-ing with him. Having a good conversation. He’s a big farmer now, kind of like Jordy. He’s probably got that strength to play but I don’t think he’s thought about football for a while,” Rodgers said via the Packers Wire.
Matthews last played in the NFL two years ago, while still with the Los Angeles Rams. The 6-time Pro Bowler hasn’t returned to the football field since suffering a jaw injury in 2019.

He was cut from the Rams roster in the summer of 2020 and has been without a team since. Reports hint that Matthews is pondering calling time on what has been a distinguished career thus far.
