A bizarre piece of history has been made in the NFL during the Buffalo Bills vs. Jacksonville Jaguars Josh Allen clash in the week 9 matchup. It has happened for the first time in NFL history that a player with the same name as the opposing quarterback has recorded a sack.
The history was made when Jaguars’ Josh Allen recorded a sack against the Bills’ Josh Allen during the game. Making it one of the most weird yet amusing NFL records of all time. The closest it has ever been reached was back in 1997 when Bills’ QB Todd Collins went against New England linebacker Todd Collins.
When Josh Allen met Josh Allen
However, to seal the longevity of his history making run, linebacker Josh Allen intercepted the Bills’ Allen late in the third quarter and then also recovered a fumble from the QB late in the fourth quarter of the game. Making him the only player to register a sack and an interception against a player with the same name.

Elias Sports Bureau stated that it was impossible to say whether sackers and sackees with the same name have ever recorded a sack before because of different variations and spellings of first names. However, with complete transparency, the names aren’t exactly the same. Since Jaguars’ Allen has no middle name, while the QB Allen is Joshua Patrick Allen.

Yet still the outside linebacker Josh Allen did not quite seem that excited for holding an amusing piece of NFL history by his name. “That’s the goal,” said the Jaguars’ Allen. “I told myself I’m not chasing. I’m going to let the play come to me. Take one play at a time and when that play comes, I’m going to do what I do.”
Before the game the Bills’ Allen and the Jaguars’ Allen have never met, but they have certainly texted each other on Twitter and Instagram. The Jaguars’ Allen had an unfortunate instance when he received an email that was actually addressed to the Bills’ Allen.

“I’m not going to tell his business, but I got an email [that was supposed to go to the other Allen] and I’m reading [it and] I’m like, ‘Oh yeah!'” he said. “Then I went to the bottom, and I was like, ‘I don’t think this one was for me.’ It would have good if it was on me, I’ll tell you that.”
Jacksonville Jaguars upset the Buffalo Bills (9-6)
The Jaguars’ linebacker expressed how much excited he was to face the Bills prior to the game because of how well the Bills have been throughout the season so far. And going against a tough opponent like Bills would certainly be a challenge for them. “I’m excited about this one, not just because who we’re playing against or him, but just the team and how that team’s been playing recently.”

The Jaguars managed to upset the Buffalo Bills after they contained them at 6 points only. Judging by the scoreboard alone, we can say that the game was a defensive battle between the two sides but was certainly dominated by the Jacksonville as they won by a three point lead.
