Going into the 2023 season, the Arizona Cardinals will be a very different team from what fans saw in the 2022 season. Both on the inside and on the outside. After major coaching changes, the Bird Gang unveiled their brand new home, away, and alternate kits for the new season. And this is the first time the organization has changed its threads since 2005. However, the fan reaction to the revelation was not synonymous with the pre-release hype surrounding the new kit.
The new Cardinals uniform has some new enhancements and other old modifications. However, fans were not pleased with the solid tone that the franchise went with. Let’s say the fans weren’t exactly fans of the new kits.

Downtown Phoenix buzzed on Thursday night as quarterback Kyler Murray and fellow Arizona players showed off the new kit for the revamped Cardinals. The set comprised the all-red home kit, the all-white away kit, and the all-black alternate kit. Their main helmet retained the white color, albeit with certain modifications. The home and away helmets have a silver facemask. Also, the Cardinals logo on the helmet is now 3D-enhanced sprinkled with silver flakes.

This uniform will mark the first time the state name ‘Arizona’ features on the kit. Nike has done this for other NFL teams in recent seasons, including the New York Jets and the Atlanta Falcons. However, fans absolutely detested the design idea. And the state name wasn’t the only concern for fans. So, the new kit was mostly a miss.
These fans had better ideas for the designers:
I mean the jokes write themselves so I won’t be making one today. But on a serious note, all they had to do was keep it simple, axe those weird side stripes, put the Arizona flag back on the sleeve, and call it a day.
Now they’re dropping the ball on and off the field.

These fans don’t seem to mind the new design as much:

A lot of people will be reactionary but these are solid tbh. Wasn’t worth the hype but they look good.

The home uniform has the words ‘Protect The Nest’ stitched inside the collar, while the away kit has the jersey numbers in black, with the words ‘Bird Gang’ embroidered inside the collar.
The uniforms aren’t the only thing new about the Cardinals this year
Many diehard fans still thought very highly of their new kits. “The three main things we focused on were. How do we tell the traditional story and amplify some elements from the past? How do we bring it through the lens of modern-classic so it feels fresh, unique, and different for the franchise, and also how are we inclusive of all the fans in Arizona and the players as well, to get people really excited for what is coming with this uniform,” Nike’s design director, Kristi Lauzonis said. However, the uniforms will soon be at the back of everyone’s minds, especially with all the off-season drama unfolding in the franchise.

The Cardinals roped in rookie head coach, Jonathan Gannon, to team up with a rookie GM in Monti Ossenfort. The franchise has been at the center of trade rumors after safety Budda Baker and star wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins reportedly wanted out before the next season. Despite featuring in the kit release, QB Kyler Murray will probably be on the sidelines next season while nursing a torn ACL injury. All in all, the fans are putting all their hopes on the new uniforms to bring in some luck for the new season in September.
