NFL’s newest recruits have had a rather odd beginning to their professional careers so far. The pandemic has compelled almost everyone to adapt in their ways of work and top recruit, Joe Burrow is no exception. Instead of being out in the field, he is at home, attending virtual meetings.
Bengal’s top pick lives up to his expectations
In this virtual era, Burrow has been working hard and preparing well. Cincinnati Bengals‘ head coach, Zac Taylor, while talking to Sports Illustrated, said, “He’s been great. As advertised is the best way to put it. You can tell he spends a lot of time on his own being prepared with questions and he’s doing a great job taking ownership, which is important for a quarterback to do, and he’s doing everything he can to own this offense. Been really impressed with him, but not surprised.”

Joe was picked first overall by the Bengals in the 2019 NFL Virtual Draft. “I would have told you you were crazy,” Burrow said when asked if he would have thought this could even happen.
The quarterback missed out on rookie camp due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but this hasn’t stopped him from practicing with his childhood friends. The 23-year-old is presently at his parents’ home in Ohio. Despite being at home, he has been receiving good feedback. Offensive coordinator, Brian Callahan said Joe was doing well on virtual his assignments.

Additionally, Taylor wanted to give Burrow a real feel during this virtual offseason and has “made the quarterbacks stand up. So Joe’s probably in his parents’ basement, standing up, yelling, while his mom’s upstairs making lunch. It was good. They took ownership of it. And I told them, we’re not trying to act like we’re in church here, we need to replicate these reps we’re missing on the field, so speak up and be loud and let everybody hear you. And our guys did a good job of that.”
It’s great seeing him already putting in so much work and taking up responsibility. This has led to his new teammates gaining confidence over him and his abilities even without having met him yet. In fact, the Bengal’s wide receiver, Auden Tate even said that it looks like Burrow knows a lot already.
