JJ Watt is arguably one of the finest defensive ends of this generation. The three-time NFL defensive player of the year is a nightmare for many quarterbacks owing to his incredible knack for closing down quarterbacks. It won’t be an exaggeration to say that he is amongst the best in the game in that aspect.
Playing defense in football requires a lot of grit and strength as it is one of the most physical positions in the game. Owing to the high physicality, injuries are a part and parcel of this position. It looks like the Cardinals’ defensive end received his parcel while playing against his former team, Houston Texans.

Injuries haven’t been kind to JJ Watt
When one goes through JJ Watt’s career, it almost feels like his career has been largely affected by constant injuries. One deeper look at statistics converts this feeling to a fact. In the first five seasons of his career, the defensive end started all 80 matches. But as age started catching up with him, so did injuries.
Watt missed 13 games in 2016 due to two back operations, 11 games in 2017 due to a fractured left tibia, and eight games in 2019 due to a torn pec. According to ESPN Stats & Information, if he misses the remainder of the season, he will have missed 42 games in the six seasons following that 80-game streak, missing at least half of the games in four of those six seasons.

Watt missed the first few games of this season for the Cardinals owing to a hamstring injury from last season. Just when he was regaining his stride by playing four games on the trot, the former Texans defender suffered a barrage of injuries. This time to his upper body.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the injuries suffered by J.J are serious in nature. This means that Watt would have season-ending shoulder surgery. He suffered this injury in the second quarter against the Texans. Despite suffering from 4 injuries in the quarter, Watt continued playing and finished the quarter. Unfortunately, this also means that he will be out for the fourth time in the last six seasons with a season-ending injury.
