San Francisco 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo has been a divisive figure in the franchise fanbase. The QB made the news in recent years because of links with a move away from San Francisco. The 2-time Super Bowl champion was supposed to be a big game player and leader but choked during the biggest game of their season. He was an enormous factor in their disappointing loss against the Los Angeles Rams during the NFC Championship game.

Garoppolo finds himself under more pressure this season after the 49ers did draft rookie QB Trey Lance for the future. Coach Kyle Shanahan kept his options open by claiming that Jimmy G might return next season. But trade rumors about the 49ers QB refuse to die down, and the franchise might try to shift focus to gain some leverage.

While coach Shanahan and GM John Lynch remained silent about trading Jimmy G, the player did not seem to reciprocate. He was open while discussing his future with the media and was more than willing to leave the franchise for newer pastures.

While Jimmy G addressed the media professionally, he didn’t hold back about discussions behind the scenes. He was quoted saying, “Was talking to John (Lynch) yesterday just about finding the right destination and whatever the future holds, just doing it the right way… I just want to go to a place where they want to win, that’s really what I’m in this game for.

The answers to the questions seemed to be of someone who was already out. Jimmy came across as someone who was reminiscing his four years and remembering his better moments. He left the door open as a player in the NFL who knows situations can change quickly.

The time might be now for the Niners organization to move away from Jimmy G and focus on developing Trey Lance. Lance is a young, talented QB who might be someone Shanahan will look to rope into the squad quickly. It will be benefit both the franchise and Jimmy G, who seem to show their separation to be a foregone conclusion.
