Jimmy Garoppolo suffers a major injury to his hand

Last week, the San Francisco 49ers suffered an embarrassing loss against the Tennessee Titans. The reason for embarrassment was their inability to hang onto a 10-0 lead. Unfortunately for them, their misery didn’t end there as the star QB injured his finger in the second quarter while getting sacked.

Post-match, the 49ers gaffer didn’t expect the sprain to be severe and expected the star to return early. “We’ll see how it is Wednesday,” Shanahan said. “Hopefully it gets better.” However, things took a dramatic turn earlier today when news broke out about the severity of Garoppolo’s injury.

Reliable journalist Ian Rapoport earlier today revealed that “QB Jimmy Garoppolo suffered a chipped bone and torn ligament in his right thumb. His status is in doubt for this weekend.” Going by how severe the injury is and keeping past records in mind, the chances of Garoppolo making it before the playoffs is slim.

Who will be the new starting QB for the 49ers against the Texans?

With Garoppolo seemingly out against the Texans, the question is who will he be replaced by. The answer is simple – Trey Lance. With important clashes coming, Trey Lance is not a name that inspires confidence in the minds of the 49ers faithful, and rightly so. After all, the rookie QB has been kept out of the spotlight so far as he has featured only once this season.

But all these concerns were brushed aside by HC Kyle Shanahan earlier today. The gaffer revealed that the rookie QB has improved by leaps and bounds recently. “Throwing the ball better, making the right decisions better. I think he’s gotten healthier too,” said Kyle. “Just coming out of the preseason, coming out of his first game, I think his body has been doing better, so all of the above.”
