San Francisco 49ers star quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo may make a return this Sunday against Indianapolis Colts after recovering from a calf injury suffered during his 21-28 loss against Seattle Seahawks.

Trey Lance led the Niners against the undefeated Arizona Cardinals during Jimmy G’s unfortunate absence. However, the 21-year-old rookie failed to take full advantage of his first start in the league, as the Cardinals added yet another victory to their unbeaten streak.

“It’s the same diagnosis, and we were hoping [Lance] could go this week. Doesn’t look like it,” Shanahan said. “He might have a chance at the end of the week but I’d be surprised if he’s not ready to go next week.”

After missing all three of the team’s practices last week, Jimmy G makes a return to the field for the team’s ‘bonus practice, pointing out to the chances that the veteran will be a full go this week despite his ‘limited’ status in the injury report.

Shanahan feels optimistic about Jimmy Garoppolo

“It will be good to go out there and be full-go today,” Shanahan said on Wednesday. “I know he’s [Jimmy G] limited because we’ve got to make sure he can do everything. We’ll have a much better idea today, but I’m pretty optimistic about it.”

Although the head coach refrains himself from taking any chances with the star quarterback and wants to go with Trey Lance in case he recovers from the knee injury ahead of this week’s fixture, but that seems to be far-fetched. And so all the stars point in the direction that Jimmy will be the starting quarterback this week.
