But Billionaire Jerry made it happen, and there are primary reasons for such a profit margin.

The road to success

The year 1989 marks the time when Jerry Jones took over the Dallas Cowboys for $140 Million. However, the team was bleeding money. They were not as profitable as they are today. But Jones struck the goldmine after striking some critical deals with big brands.

As per ESPN and Joe Pompalino, Jerry Jones announced team deals with various top brands in 1995. However, it carried some risk. He signed his stadium sponsorship deals instead of using the NFL’s revenue allocation agreement with teams. He negotiated $6.5 million per season deals with Pepsi and Nike for the Cowboys’ Texas stadium. It also includes American Express and AT&T, and the total value of the transactions exceeds $60 million.

However, the NFL claimed the deals were ambush marketing since they violated profit sharing. They were upset with Pepsi and American Express as they signed large contracts with competing companies Coca-Cola and Visa. The league sued Jones after he refused to back down, and he also filed a countersuit. Eventually, both parties took their claims back, and Jones could keep his contracts.

However, Jones’ father talked him out of it. Pat Jones was uninterested in investing, and he persuaded his son not to either. But Jerry was successful in obtaining his vision with the Dallas Cowboys, and the rest is history.
