The month also comes with a good proportion of hoaxes and pranks, as Mark Holmes tricks many people with some buzz regarding Cowboys proprietor Jerry Jones.

Jerry Jones has been in the news waves for a multitude of reasons. The 79-year-old Texan tycoon has been one of the league’s most recognizable and engaging owners for the past three decades. Jones has made several problematic judgments in the past. But he still goes on making preseason alterations.

An April First hoax feat. Jerry Jones

Mark Holmes, a show host of Jobu Sports Report Podcast and a die-hard Cowboys fan makes an April fools’ prank with his subscribers. On April 1st, he uploads a video containing the news of Jerry Jones, who steps down as the GM of the franchise.

He mentions in the video, “We have some breaking news this morning. Jerry Jones, apparently, has had an epiphany and has decided that he is going to step away from being the GM of the Dallas Cowboys. We believe that this is kind of like what happened back last August at training camp.”

While he does not yet have all the specifics, he expects that all can be revealed at the news conference later this afternoon. Moreover, Will McClay will now be the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys, with full power over, according to Holmes.

This video spread like wildfire with more than 20k views. Although, the fans were quick to recognize that the video was surely an April fool’s prank. Many believe that Jones will not step down soon, and will continue his reign as the president, owner, and GM.

An undeniable heritage

Jerry Jones is far more frequently affiliated with the contemporary NFL than anyone else. Since his arrival, the Dallas Cowboys owner has always been in the middle of many of the league’s most critical moments. The Texan magnate purchased the Dallas Cowboys for $140 million in 1989 and swiftly made national headlines.

Jerry Jones appeared to be a genius early on after taking on many roles and helping to build a club that won three Super Bowls in four years in the early to mid-1990s. Since Jones took over the club, America’s Team has experienced a meteoric surge in prosperity. But after those exciting teams’ players left, all of it went downwards.

While we cannot entirely blame Jones for the Cowboys’ shortcomings over the past few decades, his unwillingness to surrender control has clearly hampered the team. The year 2021 was a good year for the Cowboys to regain prominence in the NFC East, standing at no. 1. Jones has done quite a lot of work in re-building the franchise. As they enter a new season, they might look to set some benchmarks in the league, just like the good ol’ days.
