Billionaire Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has been chasing free agent Odell Beckham Jr. for the whole of 2022. Despite Jones showing plenty of interest, neither team reached an agreement, as Beckham Jr. missed the 2022 season completely. Now it seems like the Cowboys’ owner has not stopped chasing the wide receiver, as Jones is still trying to sign OBJ during the 2023 offseason.
Notably, OBJ suffered an ACL injury during Super Bowl 56. Since then, he has not played a single game for any team in the NFL. He also visited the Giants, the Bills, and many other teams in between the 2022 season. Eventually, he decided to skip the season and start fresh in the 2023 season. As for Jones, he recently opened up about making indirect contact with OBJ, trying to persuade him possibly to join the Cowboys.

In a recent interview, Jones said, “I haven’t talked to him directly but indirectly two or three times. But I did have a very impressive visit, the most impressive of all with the most important one in this whole proposition and that’s his mother.“
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones discussed WR Odell Beckham Jr. last night. No deal is considered imminent between the sides, a person familiar with situation said earlier this week. Then, Jones talked about getting to know more about OBJ after meeting with his mother. “We had a great visit there at the Honors… she was very impressive and of course, was a great athlete. You can see where he gets a lot of the… I really felt like I got to know him.“

The 30-year-old WR will certainly be a perfect signing for the Cowboys, as they have struggled massively last season with their receiver position. Although CeeDee Lamb did a pretty good job, they lacked star power in their offense. It will be interesting to see if OBJ chooses the Cowboys or some other team for the 2023 season.

Is OBJ ready to make his return to the NFL?
Although there were plenty of teams pursuing the WR in the 2022 season, no team actually made a deal with him because many teams were not convinced about his fitness. Certainly, recovering from a torn ACL takes plenty of time and that’s why skipping the 2022 season could actually help him play longer in the NFL.
Recently, OBJ posted a social media video, which showed that he is ready to make his return. He is currently a free agent, and he doesn’t need to wait till the date of the free agency, i.e. March 15. As per reports, he could sign with any team in the NFL before or after the free agency. Right now, the Cowboys are the favorites; but many teams will be looking to add the WR to strengthen their squad.
