Tony Romo has an exceptional record as a quarterback. There is no doubt about his ability, but injuries and fate ended his career. He last played a game in 2016 for the Dallas Cowboys. The QB played 13 seasons solely for the Cowboys and is a 4x Pro-Bowler. Jerry Jones took a gamble in 2015 and made Romo play with a broken collarbone based on his ability.
Before he broke his collarbone completely, the Cowboys’ QB sustained an injury on his left clavicle. Linebacker Thomas Davis sacked Romo while playing against the Philadelphia Eagles, and he felt the injury immediately.

Further, in a game against the Carolina Panthers in 2015, he suffered another injury in his left collarbone. Jerry Jones said that his collarbone had already suffered six or seven breaks from the hit against the Eagles. The previous hit kept him out for as much as seven games.
In addition, the QB did not get surgeries for his previous collarbone injuries. The lack of medical attention led to an aggravated injury. However, former HC Jason Garrett said that if Tony were not ready to play, they would not have let him come back to the field. Similarly, even Jerry Jones took the risk of letting him play after his collarbone suffered the weight of Thomas Davis.
What did Jerry Jones say about his reasons for letting Tony Romo play?
Considering he sent the injured Cowboys‘ QB to play, it appears that Jones was desperate to save the team from a seven-game losing streak. But he said, “I don’t think push is the word for it. We felt the risk was worth the potential for having him be the impact he can be and really having a fairytale turnaround and doing something that was special.”

After suffering this injury against the Panthers, he was ruled out of the season. It was clear that the team would do anything to bounce back the 0-7 streak. But it cost Tony Romo his shoulder.
On the other hand, if he had been left out of the game against the Panthers, he could have survived to play that season. However, injuries followed him throughout his career. Consequently, a broken back in 2016 ended his 13-season-long career.
