The Dallas Cowboys got their season underway, hosting the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Tom Brady at AT&T stadium. The performance sent any fans who were there hoping for a good season back with their heads hanging low. However, while talking to Shan and RJ on 105.3 The Fan [KRLD-FM], the owner of the Cowboys, Jerry Jones, had some words of encouragement for the fans.
“One of the things that has stood me about football, and I’m comparing to the things that we all do every day away from the football is that it can be looking very dark, dark for you and then it can reverse on you in an instant”. Jones added, “boy, we got a lot of positive things we can do. I have seen it just hopeless and walk out there and David slay the giant. I’ve seen it done.”
Even though his heart is in the right place, it would take an actual biblical run from the team to go on and achieve something big. Right now, with their lackluster offense and a middling defense, it’s hard to see Dallas mounting a challenge for the actual contenders this season.
How did the Jerry Jones-led side fair against the Buccaneers?
They started with a promising run, but the attack had to settle for a 3-point field goal. That was the only scoring drive they had for the entire match. Before entering the season, many experts raised their concerns over the offensive line, all of which were justified. The opposition defense was breathing down Dak Prescott’s neck. The offensive line allowed four total sacks on the night.

The depleted receiving core of the team did not allow the Cowboys to get any passing game. Their rushing attempts also lacked any edge. The team had only 71 rushing yards, failing to score for the rest of the game. It wasn’t the promising start to the season that many had hoped.
Things went from bad to worse when Prescott injured his thumb on play and was taken off. He could be now out for several weeks, leaving the back Cooper Rush to steer the offense. After the seemingly disastrous start, many fans and experts have already written off the season for the Cowboys.

But if they are to slay any giants this season, they will have their opportunity this week when they play the defending AFC champions, the Cincinnati Bengals. Both teams will be looking to register their first wins and get the season underway.
