It’s no secret that the Philadelphia Eagles have a long-standing rivalry with the Dallas Cowboys, and ‘The Birds’ captain Jason Kelce’s recent comments are only further proof. Active since around the 60s, the feud between the two divisional franchises is the stuff of legends. The rivalry is so deep-set, in fact, that it’s not just the fans who hate each other, but the players dislike each other too. While one may not know Kelce’s exact feelings towards everyone on the Cowboys, his recent Harry Potter references reveal exactly what he thinks about boss Jerry Jones.
Like any other Potterhead, Super Bowl LII winner Kelce also engaged in the sorting of people into the four Hogwarts houses. Surprisingly, he thinks Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones belongs in Slytherin. But why? The Eagles center gave reasoning for the same on the podcast he hosts with his brother Travis Kelce.

The two Kelce brothers teamed up to sort NFL personalities into the four houses of the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. As a Harry Potter fan, the responsibility obviously fell onto the older Kelce brother. The Eagles captain actually put everyone associated with the Eagles in the Gryffindor house, including himself, and those associated with Cowboys in Slytherin. When asked why, he reasoned that if one plays for the Eagles, everyone on the Cowboys’ side is a Slytherin. When it was time for Jerry Jones to be sorted, Jason compared the franchise owner to You-Know-Who.
“Jerry Jones is for sure Slytherin. He is Lord Voldemort. He has probably got Horcruxes scattered all through the United States, Jason Garrett being one of them,” Jason said on the New Heights podcast.
Jason described the people belonging to Slytherin as “bad people, with ambition,” and “bad people, excited to be bad” while the ones in Gryffindor as “good people, with ambition.“
Why does the Eagles and Cowboys rivalry exist?
Just like Slytherin and Gryffindor, the reasoning behind the rivalry between the Eagles and the Cowboys is not immediately obvious. The two teams are big intra-divisional rivals in the NFC East, but why the beef is so intense is a little unclear.
Many fans can’t put their finger on the point where it all started. They just naturally don’t seem to like each other. For the fans in Dallas, the rivalry may have started 1980 NFC Championship game. When the Cowboys were regular Super Bowl contenders, their big beef was with the Washington Commanders. The two teams have had contrasting histories. In the 90s, when the Cowboys regularly appeared in and won the Super Bowl, the Eagles weren’t serious contenders. But the tables turned recently.
The Eagles won the Vince Lombardi for the first time in 2018 and finished as runners-up to Patrick Mahomes’ Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVII. The Cowboys haven’t featured on Super Bowl Sunday since their 1996 triumph.
