The New York Jets ticket prices aren’t the only thing that has gone up significantly since the arrival of 4x league MVP Aaron Rodgers. Also on the rise are the entire Gang Green camp’s expectations of another Vince Lombardi trophy, 55 years after Joe Namath led them to their last championship. And the comparisons, undeniably, lead back to Tom Brady and his debut year success with the Buccaneers. One of TB12’s former teammates explained why it’s justified for the Jets fan base to have the same championship hopes on the table. And the analogy he used is one for the ages.

Jason McCourty won Super Bowl LIII with Brady and the New England Patriots. On a recent episode of Good Morning Football, the former cornerback drew the perfect Jets-Buccaneers comparison and left the studio crew in splits.

Is Aaron Rodgers the long-term solution for the Jets?

39-year-old former Packers QB Aaron Rodgers’ arrival in New York shook up the AFC conference dynamics. However, it also brought with it the heightened expectations that maybe Rodgers can finally end the 12-year postseason drought for the Jets. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers found themselves in a very similar spot before Brady arrived in 2020 and took them to a championship that season. So the question on everybody’s mind is- can Rodgers do the same for the Jets?

Rodgers has already hurt himself in the OTAs. However, Jason McCourty thinks that irrespective of the outcome of the season, A-Rod was the best option to revive the dying Jets franchise.

You can try to go the easy way, just get a toupee and stick it on top of your head. You can go to the barbershop and have them do the little spray and see if it’s going to last. Or you can go full out and have a hair transplant. Try to fix the issue which you think is gonna last a long time. The Jets….. had a quarterback issue. They could have gone out and tried to sign Jimmy G in free agency. They had Derek Carr in for a visit at one point. Could have gone that route. But they chose the hair transplant. They wanted to go all in and get the best of the best. With that comes high expectations,” he said.

So is it fair? Absolutely. The Jets should have the expectations of a Super Bowl doing what Tom Brady does. That’s the kind of quarterback Aaron Rodgers is,” a balding McCourty gave the perfect hair analogy.

The CB also shared the striking similarities between the Bucs before Brady and the current Jets situation. And that made his analogy even stronger.

Tom Brady faced the exact same situation after leaving New England

Besides the 12-year playoff drought similarity, the 2019 Buccaneers and the 2022 Jets had a lot more in common. They both had a regular season record of 7 wins and had lost 6 games each by one score. Both Tampa Bay and Jets offenses got sacked more than 45 times by opposition defenses. Also, the teams were pretty close to each other in rushing yards per gain. The 2019 Bucs gained 95.2 yards while last year’s Jets did 99.2.
