The New Orleans Saints are still alive in the playoff contention this year. However, they are barely hanging by a thread after their last defeat to the Steelers. And backup quarterback Jameis Winston is hurt at not getting the shot he thinks he deserves.
The former Buccaneers QB has only played in 3 games this NFL season after his injury. Former first-choice QB Winston was replaced by quarterback Andy Dalton in Week 4 and Jameis is not happy about that.
Jameis Winston lost his starting QB role after Week 3
Jameis Winston started the 2022 season for the New Orleans Saints. However, the first round first pick from the 2015 draft injured his back against the Atlanta Falcons in the Saints’ Week 1 win. Winston carried through the pain in the next two games against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Carolina Panthers and threw for 353 yards and a touchdown against the Panthers.
Jameis Winston said he is a hundred percent healthy at the moment and doesn’t like the HC Dennis Allen’s decision to continue with Andy Dalton as the starting quarterback. Dalton has 1559 passing yards this season with 11 touchdowns and 7 interceptions in 7 games. In comparison to that, Winston had 858 yards in just 3 games with 4 TDs.
28-year-old Jameis Winston expressed his disappointment after being on the sideline for longer than he expected. “It hurts my soul. I lost my job due to injury, and the policy has always been you don’t lose your job because of injury,” Winston said about the Saints coaching staff’s decision.
Winston might add value to an underperforming Saints offense
The New Orleans Saints have lost four of their last five games. Their last defeat was a 20-10 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Saints displayed poor offensive effort and almost no running game on the field on Sunday. Saints RB Alvin Kamara ran for only 26 yards on 8 carries. QB Dalton had 174 yards with a touchdown. However, Andy was intercepted twice in the game.

Jameis Winston’s career numbers have definitely gone down since he left the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the New Orleans Saints in 2020. Winston had a massive 5109 passing yards season in his final year at Tampa and threw 33 touchdowns. With numbers like that, it’s not unusual for the QB to think he deserves more playing time.
Will the veteran QB make a return this season? The 3-7 Saints sit at the bottom of the NFC South Division. However, their Play-off dreams are still alive and their next challenge is an uphill one. They face the reigning Super Bowl Champions, the 3-6 LA Rams this Sunday, against Aaron Donald’s dominating defense.
