Denzel Ward has made history. After four extraordinary years with the Cleveland Browns, the CB has signed a handsome extension. The franchise and the athlete have agreed upon a five-year deal worth $100.5 million. Ward became the highest-paid CB in the history of the league. The Los Angeles Rams CB Jalen Ramsey couldn’t help but welcome Ward to the “100 Club.” 

Ever since joining the Browns, Ward has become a staple of his team’s defensive squad. He is one of the best to do it these days. Cleveland knows his worth, so they want to keep their CB at any cost.

Denzel Ward is the highest-paid cornerback in the NFL

The Cleveland Browns picked Denzel Ward in the first round of the 2018 NFL draft. Just three spots after QB Baker Mayfield. Ward was already a well-established college star. He was one of the defensive highlights in the draft that year. The cornerback did not disappoint. He won the PFWA All-Rookie Team honors and was selected for the Pro Bowl in his first professional season.

Ward has become the heart and soul of the Browns’ defense. He got selected to the Pro Bowl for the second time after an impressive 2021 season. The cornerback recorded three interceptions, a tackle for loss, 10 passes defended, and a half-sack. Overall, the defensive star has appeared in 52 games. He started 51 of them. 

On Monday, the Browns signed a five-year extension with Ward. The deal is worth $100.5 million with $71.25 million guaranteed. He will earn an average salary of $20.1 million per year. The average salary is very similar to Super Bowl champion CB Jalen Ramsey.

Denzel Ward joining the 100 Club is a feat that needs to be celebrated. Another star CB knows exactly how it feels to get a contract of this caliber. Jalen Ramsey, who was the richest CB in the NFL before this new deal, congratulated Ward.

“I been waiting on somebody else to touch that 100 club,” Ramsey wrote on Twitter. “you DEFINITELY DESERVE IT.” Ramsey makes an average salary of $20 million per year, and Ward’s new contract is slightly better than his. Despite being jealous of the Browns CB, Ramsey celebrates another player’s success. That is one of the reasons why fans love the Rams CB so much.
