Former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Terrell Owens shocked the NFL world recently after he announced his intention to return to the league. And the Cowboys was a destination he was interested in. Days after this shocking announcement, the Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has finally responded to the trade rumor. And he kept his response to just two sentences.

The Cowboys were in the market for a wide receiver with a serious interest in Odell Beckham Jr. But will the franchise go for a 49-year-old player?

Jerry Jones has rubbished all the rumors of the Cowboys signing Terrell Owens. Speaking on ‘105.3 The Fan’, Jones responded to Owens’ question with just two sentences.

“I’ve never talked to him or his agent. And I will not seriously consider it,” Jones said.

So, the Cowboys won’t sign the veteran wide receiver, who last appeared in the NFL in 2010. He played for the Cowboys from 2006 to 2009 and had a stellar time at AT&T Stadium. If he did sign with a franchise at this point, he would become the oldest player ever to play in the league. But with the Cowboys out of the picture, his comeback doesn’t seem probable anymore.

The rumors started when Owens’ agent announced the player’s intention to play in the league again. He also said that Owens was in contact with the Cowboys for a possible return to Dallas.

“Terrell is ready to contribute and play any role, big or small. He’s in outstanding shape. He looks no different than he did years ago,” the wide receiver’s agent Gregory Daniel said.

Owens’ exploits in the NFL

Terrell Owens started his NFL career with the San Francisco 49ers in 1996 as a third-round draft pick. He replaced Jerry Rice as a starter for the Niners after the legendary wide receiver tore his ACL early in the 1997 season. After eight seasons in the Bay Area, Owens joined Philadelphia Eagles in 2004 and played for two seasons there.

He played for the Cowboys for three seasons after the Eagles stint. His last two teams in the league, the Buffalo Bills and the Cincinnati Bengals kept him for one season each.

The six-time Pro Bowler led the league in receiving touchdowns for three of his 15 seasons, 2001, 2002 and 2006. Since 2010, the wide receiver has tried to come back to the league multiple times but hasn’t been successful. And it seems like it is the same this time around too. Should he get another shot after a gap of more than a decade?
