‘It’s Trey Lance Time’: Ex-NFL QB Rubs Salt in the Wounds of Jimmy Garoppolo Amidst Divorce From San Francisco 49ers

The San Francisco 49ers recently announced that they have decided to move on from Jimmy Garoppolo in the upcoming 2022 season. The second-year quarterback, Trey Lance, is being promoted to the starting quarterback position with uncertainties looming over Garoppolo’s future in the NFL.

As soon as the news broke out, fans were thrilled to welcome the new Trey Lance era. However, veterans like Robert Griffin III uniquely responded to the news. Griffin and his wife Grete filmed a comical reenactment of the scenario inside the Niners training camp.

The couple is known for being active on social media, entertaining their fans with satirical videos. Recently, the duo filmed a short comical reenactment of the Niners and Jimmy Garoppolo arriving at the training camp. Griffin played the role of Garoppolo while his wife featured as the Niners.

“The 49ers when Jimmy Garoppolo shows up to training camp and tries to get in the first team huddle,” Griffin wrote over the frame while trying to get inside the camp. Instantly, his wife barges in and throws him out, saying, “It’s Tray Lance time!!”

On Tuesday, which happened to be the last date for all the players to report to their respective training camps, Niners head coach Kyle Shanahan revealed the franchise has decided to go for Trey Lance as the starting quarterback.

“We have moved on to Trey (Lance), Shanahan said, per CBS sports. “We think Jimmy would have been traded if the surgery didn’t happen. He needed to do it, there’s no ill will there at all,” he added.

Niners coach says Jimmy Garoppolo and Trey Lance both are on the same page

Even before the off-season began, Niners hinted at Jimmy Garoppolo’s departure from the side and affirmed that they were looking for a new home to land the veteran quarterback. However, he underwent surgery on his shoulder, keeping him away from trade talks and decreasing his value in the trade market.

But now, the conditions have improved for both parties to agree on terms. Moreover, the Niners’ front office revealed that Garoppolo and Lance understand the gravity of the current situation and know what it takes to build a team.

“I think all three of us are on the same page,” Shanahan said. “Jimmy understands where we’re at. We understand where we’re at. I can’t tell you how appreciative I’ve been of Jimmy and what he did for us last year. He did a hell of a job coming here in camp, winning that job, and almost taking us to the Super Bowl.” he added.

Last season, Garoppolo passed for 3,810 yards and recorded 20 touchdowns with 12 interceptions. Moreover, he also registered a massive passer rating of 98.7%, keeping him intact as one of the best passers in the league. It will be interesting to see how things turn out for Garoppolo before the 2022 season officially begins.
