Every once in a while, an NFL quarterback signs a deal that changes the entire dynamics of the passer market. In the last four years, Patrick Mahomes and Deshaun Watson made historic signings. And that changed the QB economics for Lamar Jackson. Many team owners considered Watson’s contract inflated enough to not offer Jackson what he wanted. However, that didn’t seem to be the case for Philadelphia Eagles signal-caller Jalen Hurts, who made history after signing a massive 5-year contract. So what is going wrong in Jackson’s negotiations?

One NFL insider seems to think it’s the lack of an agent. Or the lack of a super agent like Jalen’s agent, Nicole Lynn. The two have been on a wild ride in the last three years, leading to this week’s climactic signing.

According to ESPN, Action Jackson turned down a deal from Baltimore Ravens in the neighborhood of the $250 million bracket, including upwards of $133 million in guaranteed over three years. And many insiders and experts speculated that the negotiations failed because of LJ’s lack of an official agent. Jackson and his mother Felicia Jones have been handling the 2019 NFL MVP’s long-drawn contract negotiations. This ultimately led to the Ravens and Lamar not coming to an agreement and the latter seeking a trade from the franchise last month.

Lamar only got the non-exclusive franchise tag worth $32.416 million. On the other hand, the Eagles acted quickly, securing their franchise quarterback on a record 5-year $255 million deal, making him the highest-paid player in NFL history in average annual value. Deshaun Watson’s $230M fully guaranteed contract still remains the highest in the guaranteed category. However, more than the Eagles securing Jalen, the credit goes to Jalen’s super agent Nicole Lynn for locking the deal for her athlete.

Lamar Jackson might want to hire Nicole Lynn. It’s not too late,” USA Today NFL journalist Mike Freeman tweeted.

And Jalen and Nicole’s story goes way back to before the prolific dual-threat quarterback joined the NFL.

How Jalen Hurts met Nicole Lynn

Lynn first reached out to the 2022 Super Bowl runner-up quarterback after the latter’s Oklahoma college career ended. Right before Jalen was about to enter the 2020 NFL draft, Nicole took her shot with an Instagram DM. “Hey, have you picked an agent? If not, I’d love to link,” the message read. The ‘Hail Mary’ worked, Jalen agreed, and the rest is history. Besides Nicole, Hurts also has an all-female management team.

Lamar can surely re-open the negotiations with Baltimore and other teams after Jalen’s recalibration of the quarterback market economics. Quarterbacks like Cincinnati’s Joe Burrow and LA Chargers‘ Justin Herbert are also up for their extensions. Surely, Action Jackson will be doing himself a favor if he reached out to super agents like Nicole. Maybe via an Instagram DM. That has worked before for quarterbacks in the league.
