The Washington Commanders seem to move in a downfall. Despite the rebranding and principal transactions, it does not seem to be the case. They got Carson Wentz during the off-season trades, but the franchise is still in some dilemma. The team had a golden chance with Kirk Cousins, but they bailed on him. They failed to get someone of the Patrick Mahomes or Josh Allen caliber. After that, a former coach inevitably saw the downfall.

The Washington franchise front had their hands over Kirk Cousins. But in 2017, the franchise had to make a judgment call. Either they could agree to the QB’s demands for the desired price tag or move ahead of his era in Washington. They chose not to meet the appeals. It led to them still running around the league.
Amidst the scenario, former Washington HC Jay Gruden said, “It’s hard to find Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen. “It’s not going to happen very often — once every 20 years. So, if you get a guy like Kirk, who can run the show, be a good leader, he’s tough, he’s accurate, you ride with him.”

Washington has had 11 different starting quarterbacks since Kirk Cousins walked off the franchise. He agreed to terms with the Minnesota Vikings on a three-year, $84 million contract in 2018. The Commanders tried to pull the heavy trade after going all in for Carson Wentz. He opened the first six games. However, Wentz is now out with a finger injury, and the franchise placed him on the IR.
