Tom Brady, during his recent appearance in the Let’s Go! podcast with Tom Brady, Larry Fitzgerald and Jim Gary, had a say on the inadvertent whistle blown during the Cincinnati Bengals and Las Vegas Raiders Wild Card matchup. That whistle cost a lot of confusion and a lot of criticism for the NFL officiating crew.

The play in question was when the Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow strolled to the right and hurled the ball before stepping out of bounds. The movement happened so quickly that it made a referee believe the quarterback had stepped outside the line. And a whistle was heard as the ball was caught by receiver Tyler Boyd. However, it was never established where the whistle came from.

But according to the NFL books, if a whistle is blown while the ball is in play, the play is considered dead. And the ball needs to be snapped again. However, in this case, the touchdown was given. Causing a lot of confusion among players and the audience.

Tom Brady on the inadvertent whistle blown during Bengals vs. Raiders

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback had his own opinions on it. “Put yourself on the other side of that,” Brady said. “You’re Joe Burrow, you’re making a play, you’re clearly in-bounds… Someone blows a whistle. What are they gonna do? Say, ‘Oh sorry we inadvertently blew the whistle.’ I think you’d have all the Bengal fans up in arms.”

Furthermore, Brady added one cannot satisfy everyone during the game. There is always a case that 50 percent of the people are happy while the other 50 are unhappy with the outcomes.

“There’s no right way,” Brady continues. “When the call goes against you, everyone’s pissed, when it goes for you everyone’s happy. When it goes for you it’s justified, when it goes against you it’s unjustified. It’s an imperfect sport. Players don’t make the right decisions. Coaches don’t make the right decisions. Sometimes the refs mess up too. But in the end with the use of technology, they’re trying to get it right as much as possible.”
