Kansas City Chiefs star QB Patrick Mahomes is probably the most vocal and theatrical person on and off the gridiron. From taking shots at other players to cracking up people on a golf course, he’s done it all. But his latest bout has drawn some not-so-smiling responses from fans and analysts.

During the Chiefs vs. Indianapolis Colts game, the Chiefs took a knee and ended play for the half. Evidently, Mahomes wasn’t very happy with the play, which was called by the offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy.

It didn’t take long for Mahomes to walk over to the sidelines and make his mind known to Bieniemy. The two seemed to be in a tense argument before Head Coach Andy Reid comes over and drags Mahomes away.

At Thursday’s press conference, Bieniemy tried clearing the air around the whole debacle, calling it a “little disagreement.”

“Here’s what I love about Pat: [he] is a competitor… That’s how you want [your quarterback]. You want to finish every drive in the end zone with a score. At that particular time, as a staff, we decided, ‘You know what? We’re getting the ball to start the second half off, so we just want to take a knee.’ So obviously, Pat, being the competitor that he is, wasn’t ready to hear that….If it had been a true eruption, I think you guys would have recognized it.”

Mahomes, too, evidently did not agree it was a huge deal and tried to downplay its magnitude. He appeared on NBC Sports ‘Pro Football Talk’ and had this to say about the argument;

“Yeah, I think after seeing the video, I mean, I see why people thought it was a bigger deal than that… I wanted to go. I wanted to take another chance and try to get it down the field and get out of bounds or something like that and try to get a better chance. Either throw a Hail Mary or take a field goal.”

“But they kind of made this decision, not just kind of screening me. We had the lead and we could just kind of get to the half and kind of refocus and kind of like have the ball coming out of the half. And we didn’t want to make a big mistake there at the half. So that’s their job… But at the same time, I always want to score. I think that’s kind of who I am.”

Patrick Mahomes and Ken Dorsey: tantrums galore

The bout became the talk of the town, with various analysts and insiders picking up on it. One such show is the ‘New Heights’, on which Chiefs’ tight end Travis Kelce said, “You’re gonna see that in every single locker room, you’re gonna see that on every single sideline if the cameras are on the sidelines. It’s a heated battle man… It gets guys fired up”

Another moment of madness brought up on the show was the meltdown from the Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey in the press box. “That was a full-on temper tantrum,” was Kelce’s opinion.

Dorsey slams his headphones and crumples up papers in front of him when Bills’ wide receiver Isaiah McKenzie is tackled in bounds. This prevents the clock from stopping in the final 10 seconds of the game, and the offense fails to start a play. NFL Network’s Kyle Brandt correctly predicts that this tantrum will live on forever and that Dorsey has made himself into a meme. That one day, when Dorsey would’ve won his 10th Super Bowl, someone on the internet will bring this meme back.
