Patrick Mahomes has a knack for making history. He’s the first player to win a Super Bowl, a championship, and two MVPs before turning 25. He’s also the first player to throw for over 5,000 yards in both college and the NFL. But is he also a baseball star? Mahomes participated in the Annual Big Slick Celebrity Softball Game at Kauffman Stadium, where he wowed the fans with his home run, double play, and pitching. How did he pull off such a feat?
Mahomes has always had a love for baseball. His father, Pat Mahomes Sr., was a pitcher in the MLB for 11 seasons. Mahomes played baseball in high school and the Detroit Tigers wanted him in 2014. But he chose to play football instead. He still loved baseball though. He even bought part of the Kansas City Royals. They play at the same stadium as the Chiefs. That’s why he was thrilled to join the Big Slick Celebrity Softball Game.

What does it take to get an invitation to the White House? Well, for sports teams, it takes winning a championship. That’s why the KC Chiefs are getting ready to meet President Biden. They are following a tradition that goes back to 1865 when President Andrew Johnson hosted two baseball teams that had excelled on the field. The first Super Bowl winners to enjoy this honor were the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1980, who shared the spotlight with the World Series-winning Pittsburgh Pirates.

The tradition is a way of celebrating the achievements of the teams and fostering national unity. But not everyone accepts the invitation. Some teams and players have chosen to skip or decline the visit for various reasons, such as political differences, personal beliefs, or scheduling conflicts.
