In reality, Tyreek Hill is not just any player who can be left off. He is that WR who helped the Chiefs bag a Superbowl in 2020 under a young QB Patrick Mahomes. Moreover, the speed and the pace at which he rushes to the opponents help the QB make quick passes and grab some touchdowns.

What’s next for Patrick Mahomes led Chiefs?

Losing a player like Tyreek Hill is never a great feeling for any quarterback. He is one of the most dynamic players of his era. He can catch a shallow or short route, and go for a touchdown. Or even catch a deep in and go for a six, and he can also run past a defense without getting tackles. His presence is often a dreadful feeling for the defense, and we have seen many such instances happening in the past. Anyways, he has left the station, and all that Chiefs can now do is build a formidable side under the leadership of Patrick Mahomes and retain their position as one of the top Super Bowl contender.

Marque Valdes-Scantling is probably the next No.1 wide receiver Chiefs can rely on. Even though he might not be a replacement for the Speedster, Scantling has his fair share to contribute. JuJu Smith-Schuster is next on the list of who got drafted by the Chiefs on a one-year deal. The wide receiver spent four years of his career with the Steelers and was restricted to playing just five games in the previous season due to a shoulder injury. But as a player, he is a game-changer.

Why would the Chiefs leave Tyreek Hill despite having enough cap space?

Tyreek Hill’s departure doesn’t mean that the Chiefs are out of Superbowl contention. They still have Mahomes and some significant WR to make it happen. But why would they adjust at the cost of Tyreek Hill? Well, the Chiefs general manager Brett Veach didn’t want to drain the entire salary cap in one season.

Patrick Mahomes signed a big extension with the Chiefs. That leaves a little bit less for other star players of the team. And thus, Chiefs’ have to rely on free agents and the draft to complete their WR room. And if Veach would have given similar contracts to Hill and Orlando Brown, their salary cap would have been doomed by 2024. Now, this deal helped the team have some breathing space, at the same time hiring some key members for a considerable cap. Finally, it all rests on Patrick Mahomes and his strategy to chase a third Super Bowl for the team.
