The NFL offseason in 2022 seems to be far from being over as the San Francisco 49ers and wide receiver Deebo Samuel contract extension saga continues. The versatile self-proclaimed wide back did enjoy a breakthrough campaign in 2021 after a slow start in his first two seasons. Samuel was spearheading the Niners’ offense last season and making clutch plays down the stretch when it matters the most.

But ever since the end of the 2021 campaign, all eyes have turned towards the franchise. The focus is now on their plans to discuss a new contract over his expiring rookie contract. Samuel remains one of the lowest-paid players on their roster while being their undisputed talisman.

The fact does seem to bother Deebo, who did have an erratic reaction on social media after not receiving an extension yet.

According to a report by Ari Meirov of Pro Football Focus, the Niners wideout did delete his 49ers Instagram profile picture. He did so after unfollowing the franchise and deleting around 80 posts. While the reason behind his actions remains unknown, Samuel did send the fans into a frenzy. The wide receiver market did see a significant pay rise, and Samuel will be looking for his contract.

How much can Deebo Samuel earn in his new contract?

During this offseason, wide receivers like Davante Adams, Tyreek Hill, and Stefon Diggs did sign lucrative big-money contracts with their new or existing franchises. Samuel might be in line to sign a new contract that might be worth $20 million to $25 million annually. While he is one of the supreme talents in the NFL, others have shown their quality by recording 1000 yards over seasons.

Samuel didn’t have the best start to his NFL career with back-to-back injury-marred seasons, but has since shown his quality. He did show his quality last season recording 1,770 total yards and 14 total touchdowns as a receiver-running back hybrid.

Samuel’s versatility makes him even more valuable, and his durability was tested in 2021 by managing to remain relatively healthy.

Even head coach Kyle Shanahan admits Samuel to be a unique player for the franchise and a freakish athletic specimen. Apart from the physical side of the game, Shanahan believes Samuel to be one of the smartest players. The Niners will be looking to sign their star wide receiver before the start of the 2022 NFL season.
