The 40-day retirement saga of Tom Brady is one of the most iconic moments of this year, if not NFL history. What fans widely regard as a not-so-smart decision, his return to the NFL only gave him a broken marriage, and an underperforming season up until now. And it seems, the QB was on the cusp of making another bad mistake: turning down a $375 million deal with Fox Sports.

During this year’s off-season, news broke about Tom Brady’s 10-year, $375 million deal with Fox Sports. In addition to being a commentator for the biggest games, he is also signing up to be their ambassador. This will provide Fox Sports with a massive boost in influence, helping with marketing campaigns, and maybe also be the tipping factor in future sales deals.

During the interview, Brady talks about how initially he was not very inclined to signing up as an analyst with Fox Sports. “Initially, I told them I didn’t want to do it. There was a lot of different emotions. I couldn’t make the decision from the place where I needed to be. For the first time, I was a free agent in life. It’s different than being a free agent in football when one of 31 teams can come after you. I had lots of different people say, “You’re free now; we’d love to have you involved in” — different parts of football, broadcasting, business, and finance.”
