As the regular season is coming to an end, Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers are possibly thinking about the next season. This Sunday, the Packers showed great grit and determination in a comeback win against the Bears. Despite the win, they are almost out of playoff contention. Moreover, Rodgers’ future also looks uncertain, as there’s a big question mark over his participation next season.
Earlier, Rodgers said that he would return to the Packers if there’s a mutual interest between him and next year’s team. The current head coach of the Packers, Matt LaFleur, recently talked about Rodgers’ place in the team, as he made things pretty clear.

However, he is currently focusing on the week 15 game against the Rams. As this will be a bye week for them, LaFleur wants to assess their performances and will try to rectify them against the Rams.
On the other hand, Rodgers signed a 3-year extension with Green Bay this past off-season, worth around $150 million. However, he hasn’t performed at a high level. Moreover, he suffered a lot of injuries during the season, including a thumb injury and a rib injury in the last game against the Eagles.
The Packers GM, Brian Gutekunst, also chimed in and expressed his feeling regarding Rodgers returning for the next season. “Surely, yeah, we want all our guys back… We made a big commitment to him this offseason, so that was important,” Gutekunst said. He further said on having no regrets about giving Rodgers a contract extension.

Rodgers had a mediocre season
Last two seasons’ MVP, Rodgers has been pretty average this season. Injuries could be a major reason for his performance graph going downhill. This season, in 13 games, he threw 2864 yards for 22 touchdowns; with a 64.3% completion rate, he also made 9 interceptions, which was his highest since the 2010 season.
On the other hand, injuries have also hampered him massively. Throughout the season, he was playing with a thumb injury. After going off in the third quarter against the Eagles with a rib injury, he was uncertain to play against the Bears. Fortunately, he recovered from that and displayed a decent performance against the Chicago side to get a win for his team. It will be interesting to see if the Packers decide to shut him down for the rest of the season. It will ultimately depend on the Packers’ playoff chances; if they fail to make it, Rodgers will most likely sit out and give the young QB Jordan Love some game time.
